What Is Sublimation Printing?

The name might make the process seem complicated and technical, it’s actually quite simple to understand.

Sublimation definition: when a solid material turns into a gas without going through a liquid stage.

This means that the artwork is transferred to an object in a gas state by using a high temperature heat press during the dye sublimation printing process. It differs from traditional printing methods because it bypasses the liquid step. There are no inks drying to the printed object. This process creates a long-lasting image with distinct colors and high-resolution quality.

How It Works

The image is first infused (printed) onto the source printing paper using sublimation ink, heat is then utilized to transfer the image from the sublimation paper to a garment. For the ink to sublimate into the fabric it must contain polyester. 100% polyester produces the best outcome and vivid colors.

Why Sublimation Printing so Great?

Sublimation offers more room for creativity and unique designs that utilize full color printing. With dye sublimation, you can print full colors, bright colors and multiple colors! When applying to garments, the ink is embedded into the fibers. This allows for the design to feel as if it’s part of the garment and not actually on the garment!
